Anyone who knows me well, knows I am a big kidult at heart. I can laugh at myself and certainly don’t take myself too seriously. After starting a family and and having my oldest take up snowboarding and skateboarding, I found myself back on both. I fell back in love with two past times from a different point in my life. Back when things were slightly less hectic and simpler. Hang with friends, skate, party, work, repeat.
I am thrilled that I have rejoined both skating and riding in my mid thirties. I didn’t doing either by design along the way, it was more of an issue of not having the people to do them with. Some friends moved, some started families, others got hurt along the way and had to hang it up.
So when my son started riding and we would with family friends we’d meet other older guys and girls that are still getting out there and skiing or riding.
My friend Chris and I, joke about being the ” old guys ” out there with all the kids and teenagers. Which is largely true. Snowboarding is hurting all around and casual older riders just don’t seem to be out there just as I wasn’t. And riders that still want to ride like they’re in their twenties and hit the park, jumps, side hits, etc.. . even scarcer.
That all said, I have a small group of friends and acquaintances that still ride or skate with some regularity. I was speaking with one of them at local shop and he mentioned getting an old buzzard crew together to go skate the Rye Airfield park in NH sometime.
I have heard that term thrown around for years regarding peers that were older. But now, I am a buzzard. I am 41, I still like acting like a kid even when I am not on a board.
I ran the concept of starting a site, social channels Buzzard themed to celebrate and promote people who are 35 or older that still skateboard, still snowboard, still wear hoodies, still wear baseball hats, still play with toys… you get the idea and hopefully read the meme above and they thought it was a great idea. Pretty much universally.
So I didn’t know what specifically to call it;
None of these clicked. Then I thought of my PS3 and PS4 gaming community and clan, The 33rdbrigade, then I though of the Bones Brigade and it hit me with a ton of bricks. I just had to see if the domain was available. It was. I had to see if the social channel were available. They were and BOOM! The Buzzard Brigade was born.
I plan on featuring our core group of Buzzards riding and skating as much as possible as well as any Buzzards from around the world by using #buzzardbrigade in social posts to be featured. We have stickers on the way and hopefully shirts and hoodies down the line.
Peep our original hack and slash logo, which has a certain freshman charm if I do say so myself. I hacked this together using GIMP.
Now check out our new and improved logo from my friend and graphics guru for The Gun Parlor @modivationdesign I love it but I may be biased…
To follow the antics of The Buzzard Brigade this winter and beyond check our our social channels to like and follow!
