Socom 4 DLC Packs Announced –
” Demolition ” Free for New Players
It was at that moment my feelings and thoughts about Zipper and more so Sony were solidified. They collectively delivered a game that barely out of Beta form. Features that are on the box were not in the game at launch. They alienated not only the ” new audience ” that they were trying to capture by making the game feel and play more like a Uncharted meets COD but they successfully pissed off the ” hardcore ” old school Socom gamers that have been buying their games since 2001. Now they were going for the cash grab. Hoping to lure any suckers that hadn’t bought this incomplete game when it dropped into shelling out a mere $40 for a game the the original herd paid $59. To boot these late adopters get the Demolition DLC pack for the bubble?
While balance of us die hards that have support this game in one way or another for over a decade have to pay $9.99 for? Excuse me??? Did I hear that right.
Sony and Zipper and being trounced on the forums for this move and rightfully so. The game has been lackluster at best. My gaming clan used to boast 100 members. We are exclusive to the PS3. We were born out of Fire Team Bravo for the PSP and Socom Confrontation for the PS3. We forged a strong, tactical communication oriented bond amongst one another. When we heard Socom 4 from Zipper was coming out we were elated. The game drops. It is BOMB. Not the good, sland kind of bomb but a Gigli kind of BOMB, you know a Scott Pilgrim Sex Bob-omb type of BOMB. I can’t pay a clan mate to join me in this game now.
Truthfully I can’t blame them and I don’t. I may have a little while back but after seeing the finished product and 5 rounds of patches and two rounds of DLC. I have to say that Sony and Zipper care more about the money grab than making a quality title that makes its own mark on the gaming community. Not one that follows suit of the other success from independent developers and publishers and spits in the face of those who built the franchise to the point where it still had marketable value.
This whole thing stinks. That is the bottom line. Even with my ranting and raving I will buy the DLC. I will play it. I will also be buying BF3 which arrives on the 25th of October. I know that more than half of my remaining 50 or so clan members will investing their time and dollars there. Because DICE get it. If you have a formula that works and a fan base that is loyal. Don’t freaking mess with the formula. Enhance it but don’t overhaul it. Apparently in it effort to keep up with Joneses, Sony and Zipper neglected to recognize that.
